Before you begin packing, consider making a packing checklist to stay organized. As you prepare for the big day, the following items can quickly become packing essentials for a move.
Boxes - Packing all your possessions into boxes, bags, and more can be overwhelming.
Permanent marker. Labeling boxes is important. You don’t want to lose track of what was packed in which box.

Blankets - Blankets can be used for additional padding of mirrors and other breakable items.
Bubble wrap or newspaper - Like using blankets, bubble wrap or newspaper can be helpful when packing kitchen items such as mugs and dishes.

Handcart - Using a handcart can help with lifting heavy items and boxes. Utilizing this will lessen the chance of physical injury from lifting heavy boxes.

Utility knife/scissors - Utility knives can cut a variety of things.
Tape - Having a strong adhesive to seal boxes, secure bubble wrap around fragile items and ensure your home goods are put away safely.
Start collecting new addresses, rental or purchase papers, moving contracts, and more in one folder. (Consider a hard copy, rather than a digital one, in case computer or phone batteries die during the move.) If any questions come up during the planning process or the move itself, you'll have the answer (and records of agreements, payments, and more) on hand.
If you're hiring moving services, renting supplies, or hiring professionals such as painters or cleaners to work on the house, book early. Waiting to do so could mean paying a higher price, or not being able to get a truck or movers at all, particularly if it's peak moving season.
If you're a DIY mover, you absolutely need a truck with a ramp. It may be cheaper to rent a truck without one, but the hassle (and struggle) of lifting every box and piece of furniture high enough to get it into the truck will add hours—plus sore muscles—to your move.
Use a couple of pieces of tape to close the bottom and top seams, then use one of the movers' techniques―making a couple of wraps all the way around the box's top and bottom edges, where stress is concentrated.
This is one of the most important packing tips that often gets neglected. There is a debate about whether storing your items by room or by category is better. It really depends on what’s easier for you. Nevertheless, we recommend packing your belongings by room. Doing this will help you stay organised and will later tell the movers or anyone unloading which box goes where.
Write the name of the room of each box with a marker next to the inventory list. Write on the sides of the boxes and not on top, as this will make it easier to recognise them if they’re stacked.
